The little sparrow

A story by Joan Chichester (paraphrased by Mary Grey)

The Bible tells the story of the giant Goliath being defeated by little David. Another story tells of a little sparrow on its back in the road, its feeble legs flailing desperately in the air. A horseman comes riding by, reins in his horse and asks sarcastically, “What do you think you are doing?”  “Well,” said the sparrow, “I heard that the sky will fall in today and I am trying to hold it up.”  The horseman said mockingly, “And do you really think that you, feeble creature you are, can make any difference to the scale of the disaster?”

“Well,” said the sparrow, “one does what one can.”
