Home Communion and the Budgie

Today I had to take communion to M who has been away from church for months.  Next to her chair was the noisiest budgie I think I’ve ever heard. As I set communion out and chatted to M the budgie squawked like a … well, like a budgie I suppose. Finally we were ready to start and I remarked that we would try and keep some silence to still ourselves before we began. A forlorn hope, I thought. But no!  Whenever we stopped speaking so did the budgie. All the way through the service he chirped like crazy as we confessed and praised and prayed and then shut up while we pondered.  A little miracle, I reckon.
