OK, so you purchase a quiz in aid of Christian Aid (compiled by one of my flock with a very twisted mind, if you don’t mind me saying so) and you struggle to find all the answers. I’ve never actually met someone who gets all the answers on these quizzes. Oh I hear that someone got them all and won the prize but I’ve never actually met them in real life.
So I only have 6 (out of 30) to get now and I thought I’d throw it out to you folk in Blogland to help with the answers. And if I win, I promise to share the Fair Trade goodies prize with you. And before someone tells me its not fair, let me assure you that others are asking their friends and family for help too!
All answers include a colour.
He was the third (5,4)
Another name for Victoria (3,5)
An unwanted gift (5,8)
These are Scottish (4,5)
Turkey stone (9)
Not many people know his proper name (7,11)
Over to you clever people…
Another name for Victoria: Mrs Brown?
An unwanted gift: “white elephant”?
I’m hopeless at these things, but “An unwanted gift (5,8)” is “white elephant”!
Here’s another three for you
He was the third (5,4) – Harry Lime
Another Name for Victoria (3,5) – Mrs Brown
Turkey stone (9) – Turquoise
Not got a clue on the other two but no doubt they will nag away at me for the rest of the day.
Thank you, thank you, thank you – a trinity of thank yous. I’ve been at this for two days now and I’m not getting any work done at all. 2 to go…
They sought him here, they sought him there
Those Frenchies sought him everywhere,
Is he in heaven or is he in hell…?
Sorry, I’ve just spent an afternoon trying to help
students without giving the answer away.
Haven’t solved the Scottish one yet.
Robin
Not many people know his real name is Maurice Mickelwhite, which is the real name of Michael Caine
Blue Bells of Scotland
I must be missing a part of my brain.
They are easy when you see the answers. And thank you Bishop B for emailing me Blue Bells.
Mother K, why is Turquoise a Turkey Stone?
French for Turkey is Turquois, and Turquoise is a Stone as well as a colour.
That’s another thing learned today – thank you.
Glad you are all taking this so seriously! Quite a few correct so far, though sorry to say to Robin the answer to No.28 is not “they seek him here…….” i.e. the Scarlet Pimpernel though I have had several sheets returned with this answer although it does not even have the right number of letters. Will be drawing the winner at Portobello Baths next Tuesday as several members of the CA committee will be there. About 1pm in changing rooms. All welcome!
To Shirley (the compiler with very twisted mind):
Are you going to disqualify Rev Ruth after all the help she has had, or just send all her clever friends viirtual certificates of achievement?
Seriously, could you publish the whole thing – questions and answers – on this site after the prizes are awarded?
Clarissa – If I disqualified Rev Ruth I would have to disqualify most of the others as well. Like your idea of virtual certificates of achievement though, though I assure you the prize is real.
Delighted to publish quiz in full after closing date i.e. 2nd November ,if okay with Ruth.
Fine with me.
Good. Didn’t mean it about disqualification, Ruth – hope you’ve won.
