More books

Occasionally I write book reviews for the Expository Times. (I am acquainted with the Editor, don’t you know?) This week two reviews were due so much of yesterday was spent reading and pondering and writing witty little reviews of no more than 400 words. I won’t print them here as then you would have [...]

New Testament - new translation

When I was on holiday I saw The Oxford Passion - an open-air production by the Creation Theatre Company. The programme said that it was inspired by a new translation of the bible by Nicholas King SJ so I ordered it from Kevin Mayhew on my return. The author says ‘the aim of the translation… [...]

Googlemaps

Thank you Mother Kimberly for alerting me to Googlemaps. St Mark’s should appear within 4 weeks or so as a place of interest (or rather Organizations - Churches/Religious).
Can anyone explain to me why there are only 3 cities marked on the overview map of the UK? And none of them is the capital Edinburgh. Scotland [...]

Nexus: the Church at play

Spent all of yesterday at the Nexus exhibition at the SECC staffing the SEC stall. We smiled, nay twinkled, and accosted passers by with the new SEC leaflet and latest issue of Inspires.

Back in the driving seat

The holiday is over and I am raring to go. Feeling refreshed and renewed and rested. My head is buzzing with all that has to be done - the list is enormous. And the desk has suffered somewhat from a couple of weeks of unanswered mail etc. Here, have a look yourself.

What have I been reading?

The joy of being on holiday for me is that I can catch up on some reading. My holiday reading is usually of the fictional kind - the sort of escapism that one needs when one is trying not to worry about one’s little flock while one is away. So, thank you for asking, I [...]

On the Fringe

Last night I went to see Catherine of Siena at the Festival Fringe by Sister Nancy (sister of comedian Bill Murray). Sister Nancy does a one-woman show of the life of Santa Caterina of Siena, whose head I have adored in her home church. (One of my favourite relics!)
Sister Nancy does the whole show in [...]
